How to Calculate Work Hours

1. Record your start and end times

For each day you worked, note the time you started and the time you finished. Use a consistent format, such as 24-hour time (09:00 to 17:00) to avoid AM/PM confusion.

2. Subtract your breaks

Unpaid breaks should be removed from your total. If you took a 30-minute lunch, subtract 30 minutes from that day's total.

3. Handle overnight shifts correctly

If your shift crosses midnight (e.g., 22:00 to 06:00), Shiftfy automatically adds 24 hours to your calculation. No special handling needed — just enter your times normally.

4. Understand regular vs. overtime hours

By default, Shiftfy considers any time over 40 hours in a week as overtime. You can adjust this threshold in Advanced Settings to match your employer's policy (e.g., 8 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week).

5. Calculate your pay (optional)

Enter your hourly rate and select your currency in Advanced Settings to see regular pay, overtime pay, and total pay estimates. This helps you verify your paycheck or estimate earnings for freelance work.

6. Review your assumptions

Always double-check your entries and verify that the overtime threshold and multiplier match your employer's policy.
